The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) was established in December 1998 to evolve the GSM Standard for a 3G system. Radio access technologies such as EDGE, GPRS, W-CDMA, HSPA, LTE and 5G NR are all a part of the 3GPP family, as are the Core Network and Systems Architecture Evolution building blocks that support them. 3GPP is one of the most successful standards projects of the past 20 years and now looks to unite the Mobile industry around LTE and its future development (www.3gpp.org).
